It is a great pleasure to introduce a brand new addition to the JRW team to you, agriculture and road haulage specialist David Clarkson.
Highly experienced chartered accountant David Clarkson from Biggar joined the firm in September as a new Partner and we are delighted to announce that David will also be heading up our new office location in Biggar.
David’s appointment and the opening of our sixth office at Biggar Business Park, Market Road, Biggar, will enable us to expand our presence in the western Borders, Lanarkshire and beyond. Hopefully, it won’t be too long until you can meet our new Partner in person, but in the meantime, here is a little more about David’s experience and story from the man himself.
“I hail from the historic market town of Biggar in the Clyde Valley, where, prior to the retirement of a family member I participated in the operation of the family road haulage business for more than 20 years. My involvement in this long established firm provided me with hands on experience in all areas of the business, including of course finance and accountancy. This has proved to be invaluable in my work as an accountant.
I have been a chartered accountant for almost 20 years and was a Partner in an accountancy practice in Lanark for nearly ten years. I remain responsible for the management of an extensive portfolio of clients, including individuals, sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and charities. Whilst clients in the agricultural sector form a core of this portfolio, I look after clients in a variety of sectors over a broad geographical area. Naturally, my experience in my family business means that I am also experienced in the accountancy and taxation issues relating to the road haulage industry.
Of course, a central element of my work involves the preparation of annual financial accounts and the preparation of income tax, corporation tax and capital allowance computations. I also manage workflows to ensure client deadlines are met and provide periodic management accounts preparation and analysis. I have extensive capital gains tax planning, inheritance tax and estate planning experience.
Other services which I provide to clients include the preparation of integrated financial projections and advising on and co-ordinating incorporations; not forgetting due diligence and investigation work. In recent years I have also been assisting clients with business sales. The interaction with other professional advisors involved in these transactions has been particularly interesting.
When I do get a bit of time away from my desk, I enjoy a spot of fly fishing and hillwalking. I also have an interest in vintage vehicles, particularly post vintage cars.
I am excited to be joining the team at JRW and I am looking forward to the fresh challenges ahead immensely. I am especially pleased to be heading up the firm’s newest office location in my home town of Biggar and look forward to growing JRW’s presence further in the Clyde Valley and western Borders.”
